Senior/Lead AI Product Technologist

Salary range £63,636 to £79,318.

About the company

Unboxed is an established and well respected design and digital product development agency based in London. We help our clients solve knotty problems, increasing business agility and improving user outcomes. Our multidisciplinary teams combine our core expertise in design and software development with specific relevant domain knowledge to deliver positive change and create meaningful impact.

In recent years, we’ve focused on delivering technology enabled services in the public sector. However, over the years we have worked on a variety of projects in the private sector.

We have an exciting opportunity to establish an AI product innovation team, whose purpose will be to rapidly prototype and build a product incorporating emerging AI technologies.

About the role

As Senior/Lead AI Product Technologist, you will be the first full time member of our AI products innovation team, working alongside experienced members of our development and design teams to create a new product on behalf of one of our clients.

Mindset and communication skills are a key factor in this role. You must be able to measure and communicate impact, be curious, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.

We are looking for someone pragmatic, user focused and product-minded, with 6+ years’ hands-on technology experience. You must be excited to try new tools and know when to ship fast and when to be more deliberate.

Your tech experience might be in straight development or a mix of that with data engineering, or some other relevant discipline.

Our client is embedded in the AI industry in the US. This is an exciting role to work with them using a variety of technologies as both tooling for the project, including using Agentic AI, and to be integrated into the product we’re building.

As the product gains commercial traction, we expect to expand the team.

Key activities

While working on this product, activities will include:

  • Assessing technical capabilities of off-the-shelf AI products, such as ChatGPT, to establish whether they will fulfill product requirements
  • Evaluating and integrating third-party APIs and foundation models (e.g. OpenAI, Claude) and implementation as appropriate
  • Working alongside our lead developers and designers to understand user needs and pain points
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Experimentation with Agentic AI to create applications with clear measures to mitigate against hallucinations and maintaining user trust
  • Keeping human-centric AI front of mind
  • Creation of a production ready minimum viable product
  • Collaboration with the Unboxed team and our clients, with an emphasis on proactive verbal and written knowledge sharing, across exploratory and production pieces of work

We also expect you to have worked within an agile environment, and have a strong drive to work closely and collaboratively with designers, developers, delivery managers and subject matter experts.

You are likely to have experience in several different organisations as a developer or data engineer and have worked closely with designers through your career.

How we work

Flexible, hybrid working

In order to ensure individuals get the best work-life balance and can work how best suits them, we’ve adapted our working practices and London office space to support hybrid working, with most people coming into the office two to three times a week. We believe in the importance of in-person collaboration.

We trust our team to do the work they need to to get the job done, and to collaborate closely with their team. If you need to flex that around your life, whether it’s caring responsibilities or a workout at the gym, we will work with you to find the right balance of work and life.

Inclusion and wellbeing

At Unboxed, we strive to create an inclusive workplace environment where people can thrive and feel they belong, by promoting a good work life balance, open communication and positive working relationships.

Our success depends on our team, and we want each member to feel fulfilled and valued. We believe individual progression is based on self-reflection and self awareness of where you are coming from, where you are now, and where you want to be. We also believe career progression is most powerful when it’s owned by, and driven by you. As part of your progression, you can expect:

  • Monthly reflection sessions
  • Six-monthly director check ins
  • An open and coaching led approach
  • Weekly dev and design “clubs”, dedicated to think more expansively about new areas of interest for the team

We are an equal opportunity employer and we’re committed to further increasing diversity within Unboxed. We believe in fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace that values and embraces the unique perspectives and experiences that each individual brings. We recognise that not everyone will have had the same opportunity to gain relevant experience and therefore welcome applications from UK residents who may have felt excluded from such a role in the past, whether due to age, gender, ethnicity, visible or invisible disability, neurodivergence, education, religion/belief, sexual orientation, or family/care commitments.
